John Arthur Marin, 58, died suddenly on December 4, 2007. John was born in Hartford, Connecticut on September 6, 1949. He was the son of the late Michael and Pauline (Poliak) Marin. In addition to his loving wife and friend, Rhonda (Foster-Gianakos) Marin of 32 years he is survived by a sister, Mary Ann Marin of Newport, Rhode Island and a brother, Paul Marin and his wife of Haddam, Connecticut.
John was a graduate of South Catholic High School in Hartford, Connecticut and attended Central Connecticut State University in New Britain, Connecticut where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science in 1972. He was employed by the State of Connecticut as a Systems Analyst for the Department of Environmental Protection. In 2004 John retired after 29 years of service. He also had a passion for real estate and as a young, entrepreneurial man purchased, maintained and operated real estate properties with his lifelong friend and business partner in the greater Hartford area for many years.
John was a sports enthusiast. He was an accomplished racquetball and softball player with many trophies. For many years he enjoyed daily games with his many buddies at the YMCA in Hartford, Connecticut where many lifelong friendships were established. Also, John enjoyed golf as well as a daily exercise regime, which included hiking, biking and walking with his wife Rhonda.
John was a world traveler with his wife. He enjoyed planning vacations and tours of every Caribbean Island, Hawaii, Europe, Mexico and the continental United States. His favorite place was the ocean and a beautiful beach. Every winter he and his wife visited various places in Florida. Also best friends Sandee and Peter joined John and Rhonda on vacation travels or enjoyed John’s visits to their home in Arizona.
John was an outstanding chef and baker. His love of cooking and creating fine deserts were inherited and learned from his mother, Paula. Friends and family regularly enjoyed his organic, delicious meals as well as his great conversation and sense of humor.
John was a nature and animal lover. He studied various species of birds and could identify them during his hiking and walking adventures. Throughout his life John had Shetland sheepdogs as pets. Many shelties enjoyed his love and caring ways. They were at the Rainbow Bridge to greet him and they crossed the Rainbow Bridge together into the land of peace.
As a hobby John studied astronomy and meteorology. He was an avid fan of the Weather Channel and could predict weather patterns and tell you what the daily weather would be. The universe and space travel fascinated and intrigued him. He enjoyed nightly star and planet watching. It was John’s wish to have his ashes travel into space and be dispersed throughout the universe. John, himself, researched and planned this final journey.
