Daniel Charles Hamer

"No greater love. John 15:13"
1975 - 2011

It is with deep sorrow that we announce Heaven has called our "Danny" home. Born Nathan Isbister, December of 1975, Daniel became part of the Hamer family July of 1977. Daniel lived life to the fullest but always on his own terms. Despite years of battling addictions he touched the lives of everyone he met. His mischievous grin and infectious laugh were a beacon in the dark for those that knew him. On October 8, 2011, in Edmonton, Alberta, Daniel could battle his demons no longer, God saw that he was tired and called him to his eternal rest. Left behind to celebrate his life and cherish the memories of his time with us are his parents, Keith and Penny Hamer, his sisters Eve Benger (David), Dee Robb (Shane), Bethany Wilson (Bobby), and his brothers, Justin Hamer (Ada), Michael Hamer (Tamilynn) and Keith Hamer. Also mourning his passing are friends and family too numerous to mention. Earth has lost a hurting soul but heaven has gained an angel.

As a child, Daniel's dream was to be an astronaut. His bedroom was decorated with shuttle blueprints and space vehicle models. He read books on space travel and dreamed of space flight. He truly was a child of the "space shuttle generation". He watched the shuttle launches and cried the day of the Challenger disaster, and could name the crew from several missions by heart.

Daniel never achieved his dream of space travel, but the impact of his life was as large as if he had! He was a shining example of loyalty and generosity. His smile was larger than life and his heart equally as big. He is remembered by all who knew him for his kindness, his caring nature and his belly laugh! His laughter seemed to rise up from his very toes and he never tired of a good prank. He was a loving son and dedicated brother.

He left those who love him far too soon, and will be forever remembered and always missed. We, his family, continue to honour him in practical ways through service and volunteer work done in his name, and we are thrilled to be able to give him this one final, amazing gift of space flight. We believe, "It is better to light a candle than to curse the darkness!" and as such, on June 21, we are lighting the largest candle we can -- ride to the stars our brother, son and friend -- your smile will forever light the cherished corners of our heart!
