Thomas James Black

"TJ - Have fun in space"
1946 - 2011

Thomas James Black was born in Denver, Colorado and grew up in Grand Junction. In early 1970, he was among the first people to move into Carmel House in Boulder, Colorado, and in 1983 was also one of the first Carmel residents to move into his own community apartment. He continued to live in the Boulder/Longmont area until his passing.

Thomas worked at a number of jobs through the Boulder Sheltered Workshop (now known as Community Link), most notably on a maintenance crew at Ball Aerospace for many years. After retiring, he attended Senior Opportunity Source program doing volunteer activities for Meals on Wheels and other community organizations.

Blessed with an outgoing personality and a great sense of humor, Thomas was very friendly and loved to meet and talk to people. He had a wide variety of interests, and loved reading and collecting books and gadgets about supernatural phenomena, UFO’s and aliens, science - especially astronomy, and anything that glows in the dark. He was a passionate video game player, and always had the latest equipment, starting with one of the earliest Atari systems.

Thomas also loved to travel taking trips to San Diego, San Francisco, Las Vegas and Alaska.

He left no immediate family, but will be greatly missed by the hundreds of people whose lives he touched.
